Scope
Design a brand new e-commerce website for a multi-service wedding and event venue.
Role
UI Designer
Goal
A website that provides a streamlined and easy-to-navigate experience, which drives revenue and engagement with:
A product & service menu
Automated scheduling to boost bookings.
Social media integration for greater reach.
A blog to improve SEO and attract leads.
Audience
The primary users are individuals seeking a venue for weddings or special events. Since the goal is to create a fully automated booking experience, I’m targeting tech-savvy users who prefer online transactions.
I believe most users will likely be aged 18-50 who are looking for an event venue in Sedona, AZ. They should be able to easily navigate the website, find necessary information, and complete their booking without hassle.
User Stories
Navigation should reflect user needs to ensure a smooth booking and customization experience. Considering a range of users with varying levels of technical expertise, the site must be intuitive. Users should be able to access and book a venue from any device, anywhere. To achieve this, we've analyzed competitors' sites and developed scenarios to ensure our design addresses key navigation challenges.
Scenarios
Instagram Referral: A user clicks a link in an Instagram story or post, landing on a specific page at various levels of the site hierarchy.
Advertisement: A user clicks on a link from a wedding magazine or online ad, starting on the homepage or typing in the URL.
Online Search: A user performs a quick Google or Bing search, landing on the homepage from search results.
Word of Mouth: A user hears about the venue from a friend and searches for the site, landing on a relevant page or directly typing the URL.
Blog Link: A user clicks a link from the company blog and starts on the blog page.
User Personas
By focusing on the specific needs of different users visiting the site, I can define the scope of the project and prioritize features that matter most to them.
I aim to cater to a range of users—those who are tech-savvy and those who may need more guidance or flexibility in their experience.
Potential Issues
1. Users Who Aren’t Tech-Savvy:
Problem: I understand that some users might struggle with complex website designs or processes, which could lead to frustration or abandonment.
Solution: To address this, I will ensure the technology accommodates all users. I’ll present information clearly through visuals, intuitive navigation, and simple interactions. Images, text, and sound will align with the venue’s branding and offerings. The website will have straightforward controls and a smooth flow to make it easy for everyone to use, regardless of technical expertise.
2. Users Without Immediate Funds:
Problem: I recognize that some users may be browsing without the intention to book immediately due to budget constraints.
Solution: To keep them engaged, I’ll offer flexible payment options, like no-money-down plans or payment arrangements, to encourage them to return when they’re ready to book. I’ll also ensure that a contact form is available, allowing users to inquire or stay connected, improving customer retention and acquisition over time.
3. Users Comparing Multiple Venues:
Problem: I know that many users are likely comparing several venues, making it essential to stand out in a competitive market.
Solution: I’ll use high-quality imagery, detailed information, and engaging content to spark interest. I’ll focus on highlighting the unique selling points of the venue to differentiate it from competitors. Additionally, I’ll make it easy for users to modify their bookings or opt out of services, which will help build trust and give them the flexibility they need when making decisions.
