Understanding users builds empathy for their experiences.
My approach is rooted in human systems engineering.
Human Systems Engineering for product design focuses on optimizing the interaction between people and technology by applying principles of psychology, ergonomics, and systems thinking.
Human Systems Engineering for content design involves applying psychological and ergonomic principles to create clear, accessible, and user-centered information.
1. Understand
By carefully observing their actions and tasks, I capture motivations, behaviors, and pain points.
Personas and stories help me paint a picture of their emotions, context, and environment. I also use techniques like user interviews, surveys, and contextual inquiries to gather insights. I might also observe how they interact with similar products or ask them to walk me through their daily tasks.
This gives a foundation to design solutions that meet their needs.
2. Create
In this phase, I create wireframes, prototypes, and user flows.
Using tools like Figma or Axure, I map out the design to ensure it aligns with user behavior.
I also use card sorting or journey mapping to organize content and workflows that make sense to users.
